Health and Safety Partners The following organizations have important and complementary roles in the EH&S mission to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all UCSC employees. Their areas of specialty sometimes overlap with EH&S, and areas of responsibility may be shared during unusual situations, but all are willing to help steer you to the person who can best assist you with a problem.
Risk Management Call the Office of Risk Management for Workers' Compensation issues, including injuries to university employees or volunteers, status of workers' compensation claims; and insurance claims for property damage, vehicle accidents, boating accidents, and injuries to non-university individuals. Fire Department The Fire Department has jurisdiction over the campus-wide Emergency Response Plan, and provides a template for departmental versions, as well as conducting training in first aid, CPR, and fire extinguisher use. Natural Sciences Facilities Coordinating the care, maintenance, and supply for the natural science community and its buildings and equipment. Vocational Rehabilitation Resources for ergonomic equipment and other accomodations for those who have reported a workplace injury. Physical Plant Call the work order desk at 9-4444 for services including plumbing, heating and ventilation, electric wiring, carpentry, painting and signs, and custodial. Campus Safety Committee: Reviews and recommends environmental health and safety related policies, procedures, and programs; assists Environmental Health & Safety director in establishing priorities and formulating new procedures.
Campus Radiation Safety and Bio-Safety Committee: Oversees and reviews use of radioactive materials on campus and projects that involve potential biohazards such as pathogenic organisms or recombinant DNA.
