An Elevated Condition is declared when there is a significant risk of terrorist attacks.
In addition to the measures taken in the previous threat condition, UCSC will consider the following protective measures:
- Establish emergency response actions based on UCSC's Incident Command System protocols;
- Maintain an institutional liaison with local, state, and federal agencies to facilitate information sharing with the campus community;
- Urge all members of the campus community to report any suspicious activity to Police;
- Ensure personnel have access and training on activating the campus emergency response plan for large incidents;
- Regularly assess facilities for vulnerabilities and take measures to reduce them;
- Increase surveillance of critical locations;
- Coordinate emergency plans with nearby jurisdictions as appropriate;
- Assess whether the precise characteristics of the threat require the further refinement of prearranged protective measures; and
- Implement, as appropriate, contingency and emergency response plans.
Members of the campus community, in addition to the actions taken for the previous threat condition, can:
- Be observant of any suspicious activity and report it to University Police at 459-2231 or 911;
- Contact neighbors to discuss their plans and needs;
- Check with school officials to determine their plans for an emergency and procedures to reunite children with parents and caregivers; and
- Update the household communication plan.
