Compliance: Chemical Hygiene Plan and Injury and Illness Prevention Program

Principal Investigators are responsible for the health and safety of everyone affected by their operations. The types of health and safety programs depend on the scope of operations. There is a core level of compliance everyone is obligated to meet; then, depending on materials, processes and activities, obligations expand accordingly. Each laboratory must develop and implement a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Chemical Hygiene Plan. Requirements include written policies and procedures to protect workers, as well as identification of individuals responsible for health and safety in the workplace. UCSC has chosen to develop a generic document that meets these requirements. The generic IIPP/CHP must be adapted by each laboratory to reflect the specifics of their operation.
