Emergencies and Chemical Spills

Emergencies and Chemical Spills

Dial 911 to report any emergency.

All laboratories need to develop policies and train employees in the procedures to use in the event of an emergency. Laboratory workers should know what to do in the event of a fire, earthquake, chemical spill, or personal injury.

General Instructions

All lab workers at UCSC should periodically review the emergency response procedures for your lab and always be aware of the locations of:

  1. Emergency telephone numbers.
  2. Eyewash fountains and emergency showers.
  3. Spill kits.
  4. Fire alarm pull boxes and fire extinguishers.
  5. Emergency exits and evacuation routes.

For all injuries and near misses fill out the Incident Report Form. Keep a copy for your records and send a copy to EH&S for review.

Always file Worker's Compensation forms for work related injuries. Consult with your Department Office for specific instruction.
