Matching Funds Program

The Safety, Wellness, and Injury Management Team has instituted a matching funds program with Be Smart About Safety funding from UCOP.

Any UCSC department can apply for matching funds, IF they have a departmental assessor trained and in place to provide evaluations and make the applications. Assessors may be loaned or borrowed between departments by arrangement between the affected parties. EHS maintains a list of the assessors and can provide it upon request, but does not act as a scheduling agent or negotiator between departments for any of these arrangements.

Space in training courses and all funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To sign up for the required classes, go to the BAS Events Manager. To become a departmental assessor, choose the "Departmental Ergonomic Assessor Training" class.

Employees will need to attend either the "Ergonomics for Computer Users" or "New Employee Safety Orientation" courses within two years prior to the application being made in order to qualify for funding. When it becomes available, the Remedy Interactive OES online assessment and training tool will also be accepted as computer user training.

Regular ergonomic evaluations will still be done under the existing procedure for anyone who requests one. If an evaluation is conducted by EHS, it will NOT be eligible for matching funds. This program is not retroactive to prior purchases.

Funding is limited on a per-employee annual basis. For the first fiscal year (or until we run out of cash, whichever comes first) an employee is eligible for the first $200 covered completely, and 75% of the remaining amount spent, up to a total of $1,000 matching funds. Capital projects and office moves are not covered. The program is an injury prevention initiative that will be audited by UCOP.
