The following vendors sell ergonomic items frequently purchased by UCSC departments, and several of them have negotiated purchase agreements which provide significant discounts off the list price for specified items.
Steelcase - chairs, office furniture, Details line keyboard trays. Steelcase has an exclusive contract with the UC system; to reach them, call the UC Call Center at 1-877-722-9090. A representative from the local supplier, Peninsula Business Interiors, will contact you. Services provided include office design and product specification (fee is 2% of list price of items bought), parts and repairs, and installation. To see some Steelcase furniture examples, go to the Tackhouse (attached to Barn G) and ask to view the Steelcase showroom. There are also a couple different Steelcase chair styles available for viewing at the EH&S office, by appointment with Kitty (9-1448).
Plantronics - telephone headsets. The local distributor is AdCom/BHS of Felton, you can reach them at 335-6850 and UCSC qualifies for the government contract discount. View the Word format catalog or ask sales contact Wendy to assist you in choosing the best system for your needs.
Humanscale - chairs, office furniture, keyboard trays. For those times when the Steelcase contract simply does not have what you need or cannot get it to you fast enough. The local representative is Mary Thomas, who can be reached at 415-606-5705. Humanscale is willing to provide chairs on a temporary trial basis to fit difficult situations.
Alimed - ergonomic equipment and accomodations. Mouse bridges, mice and trackballs, computer keyboards, wrist and footrests, document holders, and other office ergonomic solutions.
EH&S - We have a few small items available for loan if an ergonomic evaluation suggests they might help and you want to try before you buy. There are mouse bridges, a keyboard tray, an ergonomic keyboard, document holder, a headset, and we hope to expand our selection as the budget permits. Please check with Kitty (9-1448) regarding availability if you are interested in borrowing any of these items for a week or two. We also have some Vu-risers for propping up monitors, small rear-view monitor mirrors for seeing behind you without turning your neck, and a handful of ergonomic staple-pullers which we will provide for free on request until the stock runs out.
